Version 1.1.0 of the Open Compute Project (OCP) white paper Data Center Facility: Low Voltage Direct Current Power Distribution was released on September 2, 2026, and is available in the OCP Contributions Database.
This release is a major expansion. It adds three new chapters: Interface with Rack & Power (Chapter 9), System Operation, Control and Monitoring (Chapter 10), and Electromagnetic Compatibility (Chapter 11). Every existing chapter has also been expanded. Version 1.0 laid out the framework; version 1.1.0 adds the detail teams need to build and operate these systems.
Alderbuck Energy contributed to both version 1.0 and version 1.1.0, with our work concentrated in the System Operation, Control and Monitoring chapter and the Codes and Standards chapter. Our Nexus Power Unit sits at the conversion stage between the utility’s medium-voltage AC service and the DC bus. A shared, public definition of that boundary is what lets operators adopt the architecture.
Version 1.0, released March 4, 2026, set the direction for moving data center power distribution from AC to low voltage DC (LVDC), scoped at or below 1500 VDC, with 800 VDC as the target for high-density AI compute. It identified the solid-state transformer as a conversion path from medium-voltage AC to LVDC and worked through the grounding and protection questions that DC distribution raises.
Thank you to everyone who contributed through OCP and its alliance partners, Current/OS and the Open Direct Current Alliance (ODCA).
