We are pleased to share that Alderbuck Energy has been accepted into the Southern California Energy Innovation Network, known as SCEIN.
Acceptance into SCEIN is not automatic. Applications are reviewed by a Technical Advisory Committee composed of professionals from the private, public, and academic sectors with domain expertise across the energy industry. The committee screens both the technology and the entrepreneur before a company is admitted to the program. Being accepted means the committee looked at what Alderbuck is building and determined it has the technical merit and commercial potential to belong alongside the other innovators in the network.
SCEIN is a California Energy Commission-funded program led by Cleantech San Diego, and it operates across San Diego, Imperial, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties. Since its founding in 2016, the program has supported more than 75 energy startups. Together those companies employ over 800 people, hold 469 approved patents, and have raised more than $546 million in follow-on funding from public and private sources since joining. That is a meaningful return on the program’s investment and a reflection of the caliber of companies it attracts and supports.
What SCEIN offers its members goes beyond a credential. The program connects accepted companies with a consortium of regional partner organizations including Cleantech San Diego, UC San Diego, San Diego State University, EvoNexus, and others, providing access to business services, technical resources, industry connections, and capital networks that are specifically tailored to the needs of early-stage energy companies. The goal is to shorten the path from technology development to commercial deployment, which is exactly the stage Alderbuck is in.
San Diego is one of the strongest regions in the country for clean energy innovation. The depth of the technical community here, the proximity to California’s utility ecosystem, and the presence of institutions and organizations like SCEIN make it a meaningful place to build a company in this space. Alderbuck is headquartered here because of that ecosystem, and SCEIN membership is a natural extension of the connections and resources this region offers.
Alderbuck Energy looks forward to contributing to the SCEIN community and to the broader mission of advancing California’s clean energy future alongside some of the most compelling energy innovators in the region.
